What Is Saturns Distance From the Sun & Its Diameter?
“Hi, I’m Brian with Ericksontutoring.blogspot.com. Today we’re going to discuss Saturn’s distance from the sun, and it’s diameter. So Saturn is the sixth planet in our solar system. It’s the second largest, and it is what’s called a Jovian planet, which means it’s Jupiter-like. All that that means is that it’s a gaseous planet, in contrast you have terrestrial planets like earth which are more rocky, less gassy. Saturn’s distance to the sun is 1.4 billion kilometers, so it’s definitely a good distance away. In terms of its radius, the radius of Saturn is 60,268 kilometers. To put this in reference, that’s about 9.4 Earths in radius, so from the center to one edge. Now to get the diameter, we simply multiply the radius by two, and when we do so we get 120,536 kilometers. So Saturn is a pretty large planet in our Solar System, and its distance from the sun at 1.4 billion kilometers is one of the main reasons why it is a gas planet and not a terrestrial planet.
