Santa Maria is basically considered to be one of the main three ships that are used by Christopher Columbus. These ships were fist used as a voyage across the Atlantic Ocean in the year 1492. This ships was basically a small carrack or better known as in the local language as “Nao”. It is approximately 70 feet and was used as flagship for the voyage. This ship was lost when it was high and dry in a big storm. Today one can see a non sailing replica of it which is lies in Columbus, Ohio, USA. The other ships used in the voyage were caravel-type ships Santa Clara, which is very well known as NiƱa and Pinta. The Santa Maria was earlier known as La Gallega, since she was born as in built in Galicia.
