Recognizing the obligation to serve the needs of non-traditional adult learners in the U.S. and abroad, distance education was introduced at Saint Joseph’s College in 1976. At that time, Saint Joseph’s offered one degree program – the Bachelor of Science in Professional Arts, a degree completion option available for individuals with licensure or certification in one of the health professions, which incidentally is one of the programs offered through eArmyU today. Evidence of our commitment to distance education is also demonstrated by the inclusion of a provision for offering “…to multiple areas of the world, both degree and non-degree programs through distance education” in our Mission Statement, and by testimony given by our then President, Dr. David House, to the U.S. Congress in 1996 about technology and distance learning, and the importance of a support system and multiple levels of personal contact.
