What is said in the Muslim formal worship?
Muslims begin the salah by facing Makkah, and then raising their hands to their ears and proclaiming “Allahu Akbar” (“God is Greatest”). Worshippers proceed with a variety of movements and statements. An important component is the recitation of verses from the Qur’an during the standing position of the worship act. Worshippers may recite any verses from the Qur’an which they choose, following recitation of Al-Fatihah, the opening chapter of the scripture. This particular chapter is recited in each of the five daily worship times, since it embodies the core of the Islamic message.
