What is SAI Platforms attitude towards organic agriculture and fair trade?
Organic agriculture and fair trade use a set of verification and trading systems including minimum standards, audits and labels, on products targeting a limited market (niche products). More importantly, these systems do not fully take into account the three pillars of sustainable agriculture – economic, social and environmental. SAI Platform strongly believes that an agriculture that is sustainable needs to deal with all elements of sustainability in an integrated approach. It also needs to apply to mainstream products and to include a continuous improvement process in order to enable adoption by a majority of farmers.
