Rural re-addressing is the process that County is using to correct a system that no longer meets the needs of the emergency responders. The current addressing systems inability to expand, while maintaining a logical sequence, is becoming challenging for emergency responders, package delivery people, utility service providers and others. For this reason the County has been working on a project to re-address homes in the rural areas, outside the city limits of each town within the County. An improved, more effective road name, number and sign system can be of great help to those unfamiliar with the Countys rural roads, and will assist emergency responders in locating a residence more quickly and efficiently. In an emergency every second counts. In a crisis, this can mean the difference between life and death, losing property to fire or timely response to a crime. Getting a uniformed addressing system in the County will allow for the eventual implementation of an Enhanced 911 system. The
