What is rudimentary cytosome?

Hi Preeti. Firstly, I would like to correct you that it should be CYTOSTOME. Rudimentary Cytostome – is the rudimentary mouth (Leventhal 1989). The outer, clear and glassy layer of the cytoplasm is called the cell cortex or the Ectoplasm. A cell cortex is made primarily of spectrin proteins along with lesser amounts of actin microfilaments. Spectrin proteins and actin microfilaments are attached to transmembrane proteins by attachment proteins between them and the transmembrane proteins. The cell cortex is attached to the inner (cytosolic) face of the plasma membrane in cells where the spectrin proteins and actin microfilaments form a mesh-like structure much like a fishnet except that it can be broken and reformed. This breakage and reformation is referred to as “dynamic instability.” The cell cortex functions as a mechanical support of the plasma membrane. In animal cells, it is a spectrin-rich layer responsible for cell-surface movements. In plant cells, the cell cortex is reinforce

Preet Whenever we mention about ectoplasm and endoplasm it should immediately strike we are refering to Kingdo Protoctista which has such differenciation of cytoplasm. Flagellate and ciliate protozoans have rudimentary cytosomes. These protozoa have a permanent mouth, the cytosome or micropore, through which ingested food passes to become enclosed in food vacuoles. Pinocytosis is a method of ingesting nutrient materials whereby fluid is drawn through small, temporary openings in the body wall. The ingested material becomes enclosed within a membrane to form a food vacuole. Ectoplasm is a thin, watery cytoplasm near the plasma membrane of some cells and Endoplasm is a dense cytoplasm found in the interior of many cells. Generally they are rich in contractile proteins as actin and mosin and their conversion into sol (extoplasm) to gel (endolasm) help in locomotion.
