What is RTI and PSM?
PSM is New Hanover County’s title for the national trend called Response to Intervention. All the schools in our county have now adopted the PSM model. Lake Forest Acdaemy is in its first year of implementation. It is a process for providing students the help that they need with academics as well as behavior with consistent monitoring of their progress on specified interventions. A team of professionals in the educational system along with the student’s parents develop the plan. This process has been put into place to ensure those kids with needs, get help so that they can "catch up with their peers" without having to be identified, the new word is "entitled" for special education services. If a student reaches the entitlement stage, an individual educational plan will be developed and implemented.
