What is Rowasa (Mesalamine-Rectal Enema) ?
Rowasa is used to treat swelling and inflammation of the colon or rectum. It is often used to treat ulcerative colitis. How To Use Rowasa To use the enema, follow the instructions provided in the package. Unwrap the enema and shake the bottle well. Lie on your left side with one or both knees bent up to your chest. Insert the enema tip into the rectum pointing toward the navel and gently squeeze the bottle to release the medication. Try to retain the medication in your rectum for about 8 hours. Rowasa is usually used once a day at bedtime. Use this exactly as prescribed. Do not increase your dose or use this more often than directed. It may take up to 3 weeks for the effects of Rowasa to be noticed. If your symptoms do not improve or become worse while using Rowasa, contact your doctor.
