What is roaming?
It’s a service that allows you to contact the world when you are outside Hong Kong. As a SmarTone-Vodafone customer, when you turn on your mobile phone in a foreign country with international roaming coverage, you will be able to receive incoming calls from anyone who dials your mobile number as usual. You can make outgoing calls to a local number in the roaming country. For calling to Hong Kong, you can either making IDD calls (pre-requisition required) or simply using *131* PhoneHome service.
When you use your phone outside of your providers network (see maps), you are roaming on another wireless provider’s network. Airtime minutes used when roaming are generally not part of your basic calling plan. Check your wireless provider’s plan details and coverage maps to determine when you are roaming, and how you are charged for these calls. Most providers offer no roaming charge features in some calling plans.
Roaming is a service offered by most cellular service providers that allows subscribers to use cellular services while travelling outside their home service area. The areas / countries you can roam in and the cost will depend on which service provider you use. For more information on roaming please visit: www.cellphones.ca/resources/r.
