What is ResNet?
ResNet, short for Residential Network, is part of the Division of University Housing’s Information Technology Department and provides data and video services for University Housing residents. We provide Internet service for all residents living in University Housing Residence Halls and University Apartments. ResNet also provides the Residence Halls with expanded basic cable TV service and common area telephones located in floor dens and main lobbies.
ResNet is the residential computing networking on River Campus at the University of Rochester. ResNet allows students access to email, and the internet from the comfort of their room through a medium called Ethernet. At the University of Rochester our Ethernet network uses a T3 connection which is faster than any phone line or cable connection. In short this means web pages load quicker, downloading takes less time improving student productivity and satisfaction.
ResNet, part of the Technology Services, provides computer and support services to students, including: dorm computer labs, computer support, educational materials, and a high-speed connection to the Residential Network. When living in an on-campus residency, students connect to the Residential Network to gain access to the Internet and University online resources. ResNet Consultants maintain and support student computing at the University by assisting students with computer problems and ensuring that the network and computing facilities run smoothly. More information about ResNet can be obtained from the About ResNet page.
