Don’t worry, you’re right, there is such a thing as a sports doctor. Sports doctors are physicians who have gone through med school and residency, and then have done additional training in the subspecialty of sports medicine. The overall path is: 4 years of college 4 years of medical school 3-5 years of residency (depending on the specialty) 1 year of sports medicine fellowship In terms of what specialty you do your residency training in, there are a few options: internal medicine, family medicine, emergency medicine, orthopaedic surgery, and pediatrics are the main ones. For now, don’t get too fixated/worried about which residency you’d do….which route you want to take will become much clearer in med school (or, at least, you’ll have special advisers to help you figure out which route is best for you)….and most people don’t decide on their specialty until their third year of med school. Right now, focus on confirming you want to go into medicine, and work on getting into med schoo
