A single reader that is located more than 200 feet from the PC, or a network of up to 31 readers located less than 4000 feet from the PC. This requires that the PC have one available DB9 serial communications port (COM port) available with a connection to a RS-485 / RS-232 converter. The readers will be connected to the PC using category-5 rated cable in a daisy chain configuration. This cable should be dedicated to this connection and not used for any other purpose. Three conductors will be used: RS-485 Tx, RS-485 Rx and RS-485 GND. For information on forming these connections and the configuration for this network, please refer to the VeriSeries & RS-485 / RS-232 Converter Configuration application note.
