What is required for a provider to properly submit a claim to Medicare (or the DMERC) for reimbursement on oxygen equipment?
Three supporting documents are required for proper filing: 1) Original prescription 2) Qualification test (ABG or Oximetry) conducted by a third party (Authorized third parties are a hospital in-patient or out-patient lab, a physicians office, or an Independent Diagnostic Testing Facility (IDTF) – not a supplier of DMEPOS) 3) CMN It is possible to submit, and be reimbursed, without the complete set of documentation. However, if this practice is discovered through a CMS audit, the provider will be required to re-pay the full amount of the reimbursement received per patient, with the potential for an additional fine.
