What is renewable energy, and who is GreenPower?
Most of the energy generated into the pool comes from burning fossil fuel such as coal. When burnt, these sources create greenhouse gases which lead to climate change. Renewable energy is generation from natural sources, such as water (hydro electricity), wind (wind turbines) and the sun (solar panels or ‘photovoltaic’, also known as PV). These types of generation do not emit any greenhouse gas. GreenPower is a government body that oversees the renewable electricity industry, certifying renewable generators and retailers to ensure that standards are maintained and that customers who sign up to renewable energy retail products are getting what they pay for.
