What is relationship between the broken window theory and signal crime?
The broken windows theory suggests that if a window in a neighbourhood gets broken, and is unfixed it will suggest to people that the area is uncared for. After a few days, another window will be broken, then another, then 2 more, then 3 more e.t.c. It carries on like this until more serious criminality is attracted to the area. It’s easier to see with grafitti. If a tag appears on a wall and isn’t washed off, more will appear.
