The more access to government information, the more potential for combating corruption. I say “potential” because you need to have a minimum number of competitive media trying to get “the scoop” — without that diversity, it’s too easy for a very few media to “get in bed with the government” and participate in concealing information which threatens the “powers that be.” The other thing is, media need to strive to reduce their dependency on the government, even if that makes their life more difficult.
