What is region 2?
Region 2 DVD’s are designed for use in the UK, any DVD Player purchased from a UK electrical store will be compatible with Region 2 DVD’s. What is NTSC and PAL? NTSC is the television system used in the USA, Canada, Japan, Mexico, Philippines, South Korea & Taiwan, whilst PAL is the television system the UK & most of Europe uses. DVD’s that feature NTSC are most likely Region 1 DVD’s, whilst DVD’s that state PAL will be Region 2 compatible DVD’s. Can I watch Region 1 DVD’s in the UK? To watch DVDs that are Region 1 in the UK you will need a multi-region DVD Player, to check if you’re DVD Player is multi-region look out for a small globe icon with a number 1 on the front of the unit itself, this means that the player will be compatible with Region 1 DVD’s. It’s worth checking the manual as well as some players won’t feature this information on the unit itself. The majority of DVD Players sold in the UK are Region 2, however you’ll find that many can be unlocked using a set code to play
Region 2 discs are discs that are designed to be played within the areas designated to this particular Region. Region 2 is designated to the UK, Europe, Japan, South Africa and the Middle East. You will need a Multi-Region compatible DVD player to view Region 2 discs outside of the UK, Europe, Japan, South Africa and the Middle East. Region 2 discs will only play on UK, Europe, Japan, South Africa and the Middle East DVD or UMD players. This is presuming your Player is not multi region compatible. If your Player is multi region compatible – it will play DVD’s and UMD’s from any region. Please refer to your DVD or UMD player instruction Booklet for conformation of your players regional settings.
