What is region 1 and all that blah ?

In case anyone of you are planing to buy a DVD player – make sure u play a Region 1 DVD in the showroom on that player first – ask your DVDwalla to lend u one – all original DVD prints of hollywood movies are Region 1. DVDs from UK are region 2. The ability to play all region DVDs is also called Region hacking [More on all this at DVDTalk.com – or maybe mail me and i can tell u more] OK now a real nice-to-have feature was MP3 capability. I tried Usual Suspects in the showroom and it played perfectly. It also had MP3 capability and was priced at below 11k so i jumped at it. So far so good … However now the trouble began. In the DVD technology there has ben a recent enhancement called RCE [Region Coding Enhanced – more at DVDTalk.com] It so happened Usual Suspects was a Region 1 DVD but not a RCE title *sigh*] Problem 1: TCL DVD player does NOT play RCE DVDs.
