What is region 0?
Region 0, or region free as they are sometimes called, are DVD’s with no region. They are meant to play on all DVD players. These discs can be illegal; and most commonly are pirated and come from Hong Kong, however this is not always the case. What is the purpose of different regions? Most films are theatrically released in the United States first; around six months later those same films are theatrically released in Japan and Europe. An additional six months after that the film will be released to the rest of Asia, followed by Australia and Mexico as they are released in order of region coding. It is approximately six to twelve months after the initial theatrical release that the film will come out on DVD in the United States. Region code 0, is in fact not a region but signifies that there is no encoding – that it is a region-free disc, player, software, drive, etc. Regional encoding is not mandatory or required by law, but is optional for all manufacturers. Also known as Region All or Region Free, Region 0 discs have no geographic restrictions. All Panamint Cinema DVDs are ‘Region 0’. How can I be sure a Panamint Cinema DVD will play on my equipment? As our DVDs are PAL Region Free they should play on any DVD/TV system compatible with the PAL system. In countries which use the NTSC system you will require a DVD player which is multi-standard, i.e. able to play both NTSC and PAL systems. We are unable to replace or refund items which have been ordered in error. Can I watch DVDs on my PC or laptop? As our DVDs are all PAL Region Free they should be playable on any PC or laptop worldwide. Most PC monitors are easily able to display PAL or NTSC output, but if you use a TV-Out port on your graphics card to pass the signal to a TV set youll need an PAL-compatible TV for stable colour playback of PAL discs.
