What Is Refraction In Terms Of Rainbows?

0

The visible portion of the electromagnetic spectrum is what we refer to as ‘white’ light since all the constituent colours combine to form white. Refraction causes the white light to be separated into its constituents by bending the light, Because each colur of the visible spectrum has a different wavelength (Red being the longest, Violet the shortest) it is bent at a slightly different angle to its adjacent colour, and thus the white light is separated into bands of light in the following sequence :- Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet.
