The refraction portion of the eye exam determines the ability of the cornea and lens to bring objects into focus on the retina. Remembered as “which is better, one or two,” the refraction helps to determine what power prescription would offer optimal vision. While our ophthalmologists and optometrist know this to be a vital portion of the exam, some insurance companies-Medicare being one- considers this as routine eye care and will not cover refractions.
