What is reflected by the violent and chaotic nature of much modernist art and literature in america?
Given the subjective nature of the question, a general would be the jaded nature of our culture coming out of a century of nearly constant war and a boom in skepticism of the government. The main idea being that the people are almost bored by traditional “pretty” art and need something edgier to “break the mold” and create a new style.
