What is recommended for a 7-9 year old child, who did not receive DTaP?
There is no pertussis-containing vaccine that is FDA-approved or ACIP-recommended for use in children 7-9 years of age. Td is the vaccine of choice for children 7 years and older and for adults. A primary series is three or four doses, depending on whether the person has received prior doses of diphtheria-containing vaccine and the age these doses were administered. If a child received their first dose of tetanus toxoid- and diphtheria toxoid-containing vaccine before 12 months of age, then a total of 4 tetanus toxoid- and diphtheria toxoid-containing doses are required for a primary series. If the first dose was not received until after 12 months of age or older, then a total of 3 tetanus toxoid- and diphtheria toxoid-containing doses are required to complete a primary series. The minimum interval between each of the doses except the last two is 4 weeks. The minimum interval between the next-to-last and last dose is 6 calendar months.
