What is Rebuilding Together Pittsburgh?
Rebuilding Together Pittsburgh repairs and renovates the homes of low-income, elderly homeowners and those with physical disabilities. It unites people of all faiths and walks of life in an effort to assist people in need. Work is provided free of charge to the homeowner through the generosity of corporations, local trade unions, foundations, utility companies, schools, civic groups, hospitals and individuals. Traditionally, the major emphasis and largest portion of repair services occurred on Rebuilding Day, which always takes place the last Saturday in April. However, in 2000, RTP developed Corporate Workday projects and developed Operation Urgent Care a year round emergency repair program. Special funding for year round services is provided by Foundations and special partnerships with local utility companies, the Allegheny County Area Agency and corporations. It unites people of all walks of life in an effort to rebuild homes and repair lives. All home repair services are provided free of charge to qualifying homeowners. This is made possible by the generosity of corporations, civic groups, the Pittsburgh Building Trades, construction companies, schools, congregations and foundations. Traditionally, the major emphasis and largest portion of repair services occurred on National Rebuilding Day, the last Saturday in April. However, in 2000, RTP developed “Operation Urgent Care” a year round emergency repair program to provide critical home repairs to qualifying seniors. Elderly homeowners seeking assistance with emergency heating, electrical, plumbing and safety modification repairs can receive assistance.
