What is rBGH-free or rBST-free milk?
rBGH-free milk is milk from cows not injected with synthetic Bovine Growth Hormone (BGH) which is used to prolong the production of milk. rBGH is also referred to as rBST (Bovine Somatotropin). While the FDA ruled that there is no significant difference between milk derived from rBGH-treated and non-rBGH treated cows there has been recent public concern about humans ingesting the hormone when drinking milk from cows injected with rBGH. Cows treated with rBGH/rBST may be at significantly higher risk of health concerns. The use of rBGH/rBST allows large dairy producers to push their herd to the maximum number of milking days per year, which increases cow stress and risk of disease. Therefore, the benefit of being rBGH/rBST-free is supporting humane treatment of cattle. POMx Iced Coffee only uses milk from cows not injected with rBGH/rBST.
