What is rationing in World War 2 ?

0

I am 65 years old and I can just remember food rationing as a child. Each family was issued with a book of “points”. Not all food items were rationed, but to obtain the items that were rationed, you had to exchange some of your points plus the cash of course. There were always some vegetables not on ration, and bread was`nt rationed. But things like sugar, cheese, butter, meat etc were rationed and very hard to get. Rationing finished around 1952 as I remember. Many imported items that we take for granted now, were completely unobtainable, bananas, oranges, things like that.
