What is rapid cycling Bipolar?
Rapid cycling is a further diagnosis to explain what type of bipolar you have. In simple terms it means that as a bipolar, you are experiencing more than four ‘highs’ or ‘lows’ a year. Each episode of high or low will vary in its symptoms, ferocity and effect. You can diagnose further than that as there are different types of of rapid cycling too – it gets complicated. I just accept my broad diagnosis of bipolar, rapid cycling. Lithium in my experience is a very good medication as it works to stabilise my swings on a long term basis. However, I require further medications such as antidepressant or anti pyscotic (or both) to address problems that arise during a specific episode. It is not the end of the world I promise.
