What Is Radiology Technology?
Overview Diagnostic imaging is a very important step in the diagnosis and treatment of many disease processes and traumas. Radiologic technology, also known as radiography, consists of non-invasive and minimally-invasive examinations that allow physicians to look inside the body. History Radiography began with the simultaneous discovery of X-rays and ionizing radiation. In 1895, Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen built a tube with electrodes that emitted X-rays and discovered that the rays travel through some substances but not others. In 1896, with no knowledge of Roentgen’s work, Henri Becquerel discovered that the radiation emitted by radium would develop photographic film. Pierre and Marie Curie further experimented with Becquerel’s discovery and discovered two other radioactive substances, polonium and radium. By 1900, X-rays were already being used to image the bones.
