What is Radiofrequency ablation and when is it used?
Radiofrequency ablation is a procedure used to “burn” the nerves relaying facet joint arthritis related pain. Most often facet joint injections are first performed; this is done by injecting steroid into the joint. If this injection is successful for only a short period of time, radiofrequency ablation can be performed. Patients can expect a longer duration of relief lasting months to a year or more.
