The purpose of a candle in magic is many, to first provide light, which is between day and night. This in turn creates mood much the same as incense and thereby appeals to your subconscious from which most magic manifests. it (sets the mood ) if you have ever had candlelight dinners you will know this. Also candle color represents which type of magic is performed, for example red or pink indicates love or bonding type spells, white for general use, black or brown for cursing or melevolent purposes, green for money attracting spells. Also they may be made by the maji himself which some would say makes them more potent. They sometimes may have magical symbols eched into them to reflect the type of magic performed and these are refered to as sigils.
