What is pupillary distance (PD), mine is not written on my prescription?
It’s the distance between your pupil centres. For your prescription spectacles to do the job well the optical centre of the lenses needs to be made to match the distance between your eyes, so that the centre of each lens is aligned with the centre of your pupil. To achieve this, we need your pupillary distance (PD) measurement. Unfortunately, not all opticians state this measurement on the prescription, however, you can request it. Alternatively, you can order your prescription spectacles using our default PD of 63mm for distance. Near PD is usually 4mm less than this, so default is at 59mm. Intermediate PD is in between the two, and so default is set at 61mm. Using our default average, PD does not harm your eyes but it can cause eye strain.
