What is publishing and why should I use a publisher?
A song has been published when it has been written, copyrighted and has either a demo created for it or has been recorded and released, making it officially available for public consumption through music industry channels such as music catalogs (on line and elsewhere) or music retail outlets (on line and elsewhere). Most if not all songs that are published also have a professional lead-sheet created for them. This lead-sheet may also be available for sale to the general public along with the music (CD or digital release). Publishers are the established “gatekeepers” between songs and artists & record labels. They have the experience and expertise in preparing songs and material by songwriters for presentation, consideration, review, license and purchasing by the “end users” (artists & record labels). The primary focus of JRP is providing publishing products and services to the songwriters we serve.
