What is Public Health? How is the public health model different than the health care/medical model?

Everett Koop Public health is an exciting, dynamic, multi-disciplinary field where people work to protect and improve the health of communities and populations. Public health focuses on the health of entire populations while they are still healthy, rather than on an individual patient after they become ill. This proactive, preventive approach is the single-most important distinction between public health and clinical medicine.
