Some PlayStation 3 consoles suffer from Error code 80010514 “An error occurred during the start operation” if (a) the hard drive has corrupt sectors or (b) the firmware was incorrectly installed (which could be related to (a)). The problem is a software related fault that prevents some games, if not all, from running. DVDs and Blu-Ray discs are unaffected by this problem. There is no actual fix for this problem other than installing a newer firmware update.
