What is Provisional Certification with Advanced Standing?
Provisional Certification with Advanced Standing is a certificate granted by the Massachusetts Department of Education to individuals who have completed the following: (1) A bachelor’s degree appropriate to the instructional field in the arts or sciences or an interdisciplinary degree from an accredited college or university; (2) the Massachusetts Teacher Tests with a passing score; (3) a state-approved professional preparation program through a four-year college or university, or through a state-approved school district, or a course of study prescribed by the Massachusetts Department of Education. This level of certification provides candidates with the eligibility needed to seek employment in schools as professional teachers, and this certificate is valid for five years of employment.
