What is proper etiquette for giving a hostess gift?

0

It is always in good taste to bring your hostess a gift. Many bring things like wine, or food, but then expect that the hostess will serve it. That is in bad taste. A gift is a gift and to be used when the recipient wants to use it, not when the giver expects it to be used. I usually give things for the hostess personally, things like scented gift candles, bath salts, or a bouquet of flowers and even have brought nice stationary and such. A hostess gift is your “thank you card” that shows you are a person of class and education. And that you are thankful to be invited into someone’s home. I generally spend less than $10 and if I shop well, around $5.
