What is Project Elysium?
We’re not quite sure yet, but in short, Elysium is a third-person, two-dimensional multimedia chat environment. Elysium was started when Communities.com decided to stop development of The Palace and focus instead on the ill-fated Passport. The Palace community then decided to create an free software replacement for The Palace. Unfortunately, while there was much talk about Elysium, little was actually done. So on April 5, 2001 Mystican called a meeting of people interested in coding Elysium. Unfortunately, only three people showed up. Despite this fact, the decision was made to go ahead and start coding something. That something was purgatory. Purgatory may be rechristened Elysium when it’s (effectively) complete, or Elysium may be used to refer to the client-server protocol, or Elysium may remain an abstract idea.
