What is Prempro (Premia Continuous) used for?
Prempro consists of a complex blend of natural estrogens plus progestin and is indicated for the treatment of moderate to severe vasomotor symptoms associated with menopause, such as hot flashes and night sweats, and the treatment of vaginal dryness and for the prevention of postmenopausal osteoporosis. The addition of progestin in HRT helps prevent overgrowth of the uterine lining, which can occur when estrogen is given alone in women who still have a uterus and which may lead to cancer. This risk is greatly reduced when progestin is taken in combination with estrogen, as with Prempro.
