Pre-positioning is defined under 44 CFR § 204.3 as “moving existing fire prevention or suppression resources from an area of lower fire danger to one of higher fire danger in anticipation of an increase in fire activity.” Per 44 CFR § 204.42, pre-positioning costs for State, out-of-State, Federal, and International resources, must be approved by the Regional Director, and may be approved up to a maximum of 21 days before the fire declaration.
