What is pre-baiting and how much bait will I need?
Pre-baiting is feeding the lake or river system regularly before and after you fish, to build a high potential catching spot to which the carp regularly return to feed. This method will virtually guarantee that there will be more carp for you to catch, and that the fish you catch will be consistently larger. The normal amount to pre-bait is around 2-5 kilos per week with continued feeding through out the season. Most – if not all – specimen carp anglers pre-bait and some, more dedicated anglers will continue to feed the lake throughout the colder months, perhaps reducing the amount of feed but still visiting the lake weekly and using higher quantities to make up for the less-frequent visits. Many carp anglers will differ in the amount of bait they use. Some opt for the less-feed- more-regularly approach, but the quantity of feed will still reach 5 kilos a week.
