What is pre-authorization and is it required?
Pre-authorization is the process in which a policy holder notifies the insurance company in advance of a scheduled surgery or hospital stay. This is required as it determines whether or not the hospitalization or surgery is actually medically needed. To maximize benefits, it is always best to follow the pre-authorization procedure by calling Assurant Health ahead of time to make sure a health-care, doctor, or hospital visit is covered. The pre-authorization phone number can be found on the back of your Student Health Insurance Identification Card.
