What is Practical Training – CPT/OPT?
For CPT, Students must have F-1 status. Part-time CPT is 20 hours a week or less. If done during the school year, students must maintain full time status. It has no effect on OPT. OPT is a benefit of F-1 immigration status that permits up to 12 months of off-campus employment for the purpose of gaining practical experience in the student’s chosen field. While the student may work for any employer in the U.S., the job duties must be directly related to the student’s area of study and appropriate with the student’s educational level.
