Power Sector Reform Programme in Orissa is designed to transform the electricity industry from a state owned, state controlled, cash strapped monopolistic state electricity board into an efficient and viable electricity sector capable of attracting private investment and introducing elements of competition. The State Electricity Board has given way to separate companies and corporations to deal with generation, transmission and distribution. Orissa Electricity Regulatory Commission has been established to issue licenses, to arbitrate disputes and to monitor performances so as to ensure safe and reliable power supply at reasonable cost.
