What is powder coating?
(A) Powder coating is basically an electrostatic process where electrically charged paint particles in the powder form are sprayed onto the surface of pre-treated extruded aluminium profiles. After application the aluminium is baked in an oven for achieving highly durable, painted (powder coated) finish.
The powder coating process uses a solvent free dry mix of plastic resins, pigments, and fillers, that melt and fuse together when heated. The solid particles of coating are electrostatically charged in a spray gun and carried by a low velocity air to the surface of the piece to be coated. The electrostatic charge holds the powder particles in place while the part is cured in a 400-degree oven. The heat of the oven causes a chemical reaction to occur and the powder to cure, creating a highly durable finish.
Powder Coating is a completely dry, environmentally friendly and solvent free finishing process. A mix of finely ground particles of plastic resins, pigments, and fillers are electrostatically charged with high voltage and carried by low velocity air to the surface of the electrically grounded piece to be coated. The applied powder is then heated (cured) in a specially designed curing oven to its melting point, allowing the powder components to flow out into a liquid form. After curing for a specific amount of time, the part is then removed and allowed to cool, revealing a high-quality, attractive, durable finish very resistant to scratches, cracking, peeling, UV rays and rust. Unlike most liquid paints, epoxies and urethanes which have long cure times, a powder coated part can be immediately placed into service once it has cooled.
Powder coating is a safe, dry finishing process used to create a protective finish. The powder coating product is made up of finely ground particles of pigment and resin which makes it low in toxicity and have low flammability. Powder coat is applied using a special electrostatic spray gun. The particles are charged with static electricity and are then sprayed on to metal surfaces that have been electrically grounded. This makes the particles adhere to the surfaces thus creating a magnetic attraction. The metal items are then heated to 350 – 450 degrees Fahrenheit. The powder coating melts and adheres to the surface creating a uniform film and then is cooled to form a very durable finish.
