Method – The patient is asked to lie in supine position with his shoulders at the end of the coach (with eyes open). The projecting head of the patient is supported by the examiner’s hand. The head is now fully extended (30 from horizontal plane) and rotated to one side. Intensive vertigo with nystagmus appears in vestibular dysfunction. It is the rough assessment of the vestibular function of VIII th cranial nerve. Positional nystagmus is also seen in posterior fossa tumour.
