What is POS software?
POS stands for point of sale. POS software is an application that turns a computer into a cash register. The register is only half of the POS system; a controller resides in the back office that handles all the items that are for sale and their bar codes. In the United States, most large retailers use IBM’s 4690 Operating System and the 4694 family of computers as POS systems. They add printers, scanners and other peripherals from companies like NCR to create a complete POS system.
