What is POS data and how is it different from the Syndicated data?
Dr. Jain: Point of sales data is the transaction at the end consumers, which we normally call POS data. If you buy a product at a store and then go to the checkout counter to make the payment and then the person at the counter scans the product. Then two things happens: one, it generates a bill and two it enters that transaction into the database. Now the transaction includes the amount paid for each item you bought and when you bought it. This is the transaction which we call it POS data. This data you can get it from the retailer directly if you have an information sharing agreement with a retailer. But there are many stores which also sell your products and you don’t have this arrangement with them; there the syndicated data comes in. They go to the stores, collect the information and then sell you at a price. This information has another advantage. If you get the information from the retailer where you have the arrangement you only get the information of your products, where as Syn
