What is port 25?
This is the default port used by an email client to connect an email server. This is also the default port to send email. • As an email provider, how will this affect us? Members of America Online will not be able to connect to 3rd party mail servers using port 25. If your email client currently connects to your mail servers on port 25 and you are using AOL as your Internet connection this will affect you. *Note AOL members using the AOL client will not be affected. • I have email with a third party company, what does this mean to me? If you are currently using a third party email client such as Outlook, you can check your setup to see if this will affect you. If your SMTP server settings are set up to use port 25, we recommend changing them to use port 587. This is the default port for authenticated email.
