What is population distribution?why is it uneven?
Population distribution shows the relative density of people throughout the world. Why is it uneven? Lets take this in stages. 1. Climate People do not want to live in inhospitable climates. There are vast tracts of sparsely populated land in the world due to this fact. Antarctica, Northern Canada, Siberia etc are all too inhospitable and cold. 2. Terrain. People have to grow crops and have drinking water to subsist. Few live in deserts, equatorial rain forests, high mountains or marsh lands. 3. Most areas of heavy populations are therefore found where the climate is pleasant, and the land can sustain agriculture sufficient to feed the population. 4. Within this denser population you then get pockets of very dense population and urban growth. 5 Cities are located where there are good transportation links.
